NOAA & USAF Reserve hurricane team to embark on East Coast Awareness Tour

Public and media invited to tour hurricane hunter aircraft

As part of its efforts to build a Weather-Ready Nation, NOAA’s hurricane experts will tour six Atlantic coastal cities to raise awareness about the importance for preparing for the upcoming hurricane season. Experts will visit cities in the United States and Canada aboard a U.S. Air Force Reserve WC-130J hurricane hunter aircraft and the NOAA G-IV aircraft, both of which are used in hurricane forecasting.

2015 Florida Statewide Hurricane Exercise

Exercise Schedule: TENTATIVE – May 19, 2015 09:00AM – 12:00PM

Exercise Objectives:

The following objectives focus on evaluating emergency response procedures, identifying areas for improvement, and achieving a collaborative attitude. This exercise will focus on the following two objectives:

  • Communications–Assess the ability to establish and maintain multi-disciplinary communications networks during a response to a Hurricane incident.
  • Hurricane Preparedness–Determine the capability and adequacy of plans for responding to a potential Category 3 Hurricane landfall . This includes issues of preparedness, resource management, and information control.

KB4SA Visits Cub Scout Pack 128

ClayARES Training AEC Joe Bassett (W1WCN) visited Cub Scout Pack 128 to share the fun of amateur radio. Twenty Cubs and Webelos learned about propagation, phonetics and prowords. By all accounts everyone had a good time with plenty of questions answered and 5 states (Michigan, Texas, Indiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma) contacted.

NFBC: 24th Annual Tour De Forts – 04/26/2015

NFBC: 24th Annual Tour de Forts Classic

It is time for the Tour De Forts again.  We are looking for volunteers to support this event.  We are requested to have volunteers ride in the SAG vehicles and cover rest stops.
