A HUGE “Thank You!” to Jim MacKinnon, KB2EZN, and KME America Marine Tube, who helped us repair the trailer that was donated to ClayARES by Clay County Department of Emergency Management. On Saturday, May 13, Jim Winfrey, Chris White, and Scott Roberts took the trailer to KME America Marine Tube to work with Jim and make the repairs. Armed Forces Day Crossband Communications Test Set for Saturday, May 13

US Army, Air Force, Navy, and Coast Guard stations will participate in the annual Armed Forces Day Crossband Communications Test on Saturday, May 13. This annual HF communication interoperability event, sponsored by the Department of Defense since 1934, challenges Amateur Radio operators to contact military stations across the US.

Emergency Communications Driving Increase in Amateur Radio Operators

More Americans than ever have been licensed by the Federal Communications Commission as amateur radio operators, and those in the know say that emergency communications is driving their passion to be “hams.”

“There has been a tremendous amount of interest in emergency preparedness since 9/11 and Katrina, and this is true for the amateur radio community as well,” said Mike Corey, the emergency preparedness manager for the American Radio Relay League (ARRL). “Emergency communications is a gateway into amateur radio, and many join our ranks through an interest in being better prepared themselves and as a way to serve their community.”

Wilford Gas Antenna Tower

A special thank you to Doug Wilford from Wilford Gas for the donation of a 100-foot antenna tower to ClayARES.  Today we met at the tower site and dismantled the tower.  Thank you to everyone who participated and helped!
