Clay County Emergency Management- Erika Dissipates, flooding still a concern;
The Clay County Division of Emergency Management would like to take this time to warn all residents that even though TS Erika has dissipated, flooding is still possible along the North and South Prongs of Black Creek.
Along with the recent afternoon rainfall which is expected to continue over the next few days, tropical moisture from what was Tropical Storm Erika is expected to move very slowly north across the Florida peninsula into next week enhancing local rainfall. The recent rains in the Clay County area have been 4-6 inches above normal and have led to very saturated ground in the areas where flooding begins on the creeks. This means if heavy rainfall from the tropical moisture does develop it may very quickly run off into the creeks and could lead to flooding quickly. If some of the current projections actually occur heavier than normal afternoon rainfall could potentially last into late next week.
NOW is the time to prepare for the possibility for flooding along the prongs of Black Creek. Individuals should move objects out of the flood plains and water drainage pathways should be cleared of debris. If you are in an area prone to flooding you should have a plan should you need to relocate.
